About ‘Deutschland Dispatches’

Hello (or ‘hallo’, or ‘moin’, or ‘servus’…)

I’m Ryan, the founder of Deutschland Dispatches. Thanks for reading.

I set up Deutschland Dispatches partly as an exercise to keep up-to-date with what was going on in Germany (a country which I have spent an unusual amount of time thinking about).

But what I’ve realised is that not only are we Brits largely ignorant of the day-to-day events and discourse in other countries in Europe (let alone the wider world), there is a real lack of regular, convenient and publicly accessible newsletters dedicated to explaining what other countries are thinking and talking about— a vital asset for people involved in all kinds of work.

‘Deutschland Dispatches’ is an attempt to fill part of that gap. Taking inspiration from the press briefings which embassies circulate each morning to keep their staff up-to-date with the issues of the day, you can expect a quick (and hopefully at times humorous) insight into what Germany is reading, thinking and talking about, every weekday morning. While the focus is reviewing the day’s papers, I’ll also offer some commentary, context, and colour where it’s useful.

My ambition is for this newsletter to become your go-to source of information on all things Germany, and a useful archive for referring back to events from weeks and months earlier.

I would love to hear your feedback. Please feel free to reach out with anything you think I should focus on more, or any suggestions for new formats which you’d like to see.

Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter, website and archive. Never miss an update.
